My highlights of the 2nd day at JSM

by Garvesh,

I went to a number of interesting talks and posters. It was great to see a poster in the statistics in sports section on cricket analyzing the importance of home advantage and the toss by Manage et al. from Houston State. I also attended the awards ceremony and Peter Hall, President of the IMS gave a very good talk on the use of bibliometric data to assess the quality of academics. One quote I really liked from the speech:
‘Statistics should not just be used correctly. It should also be used wisely.’ unfortunately I don’t remember who said it first.

I am a 4th year PhD student at University of California, Berkeley.
